I want to keep you hot on updates.

Recently I mentioned about embedding commerce ability into Black Ice and I was so excited about this idea that I could not wait to implement it. I know that there are lot to do without this, just to make Black Ice available and it could be developed later. But I wanted to that very much and could not resist this passion.

After 2 days of work I introduce you SSI (Simple Sale Interface). It is small Black Ice library that allow add buy-now style buttons of any payment gateway that support it, into field. The main construction is ready. I will not add any new provider or new field until it is tested on live site, but I know that with this interface it will take me 1 day for creating all commerce fields I planned

  • Pay to download file
  • Pay for voucher code
  • Pay to read
  • Buy Now

And it will take from 5 to 25 hours to add new payment gateway provider.

We thought about this. We do not want to add mighty commerce features to Black Ice. We want to just create simple sale interface. On the other hand site owner have earn somehow. And we though that integration with Emirald will be good. Admin may create subscription to allow product submission. For small shops it may be even more profitable than commision of sales.

nagarasan

You enter text as HTML. Everythign you enter above readon line is visible, and everything below is visible only for those who purchased. Thus your user may sell tutorials on your site for .99$ foor example to red some tutorial.

nuclearcrash

Because it is not Resources at all. It is completely new extension with new architecture. It inherited only best features and ideas, but it is new extension. And we have new name MintJoomla to produce extensions for Joomla 1.7 2.5. This is also important thast user do not missunderstand. If it have the same name, then user may purchase Resources for joomla 1.5 but he need 2.5. So we will have to transfer, but peole will download both additional files.

At first, I thought SSI was Server Side Includes. :) Nice feature Sergey!

BTW, why you choose Cobalt for the name of ours next CCK? Are there any philosophy in that name? For me, this name feels heavy/complicated to think about or remember. Sorry for being honest. :)

It can be easiliy integrated into any field. But we will create separate field for every producy type. 2 reasons. In the future when we add new and new features there field not gett too complicated. And also fields without this feature will be free.

lorielcide

Why Cobalt? We though how to name or new extensions and we just desided to assosiate them with minerals. just like Volkswagen assosiate their cars with winds. Subscription extension is Emerald. And CCK is Cobalt because at least in our language it sounds good, it is meniral that is not met in nature which means you cannot find anything like this in Joomla world. It looks like silver, I mean rich.

There is not much philisophy though. We just thought it sounds good and yeasy.

That is a better explanaition about names than the one I came up with...

That you were naming them after Pokemon DS games!

Cobalt is the one name you have used for the project that doesn't fit... all the rest though do.

Pokemon Blue

Pokemon Emerald

Pokemon Black etc...

:)  It was a just a joke though, Sergey.

Aaah, if I just had noticed it a little bit earlier... I mean about your mineral naming plans...

Do you remember Seblod2 naming contest and poll? It just turned out into a totally different direction, because of company internals and legal questions. There were some great user entries and suggestions, but they actually went their own way.

My own favourite suggestion was:

JADE  (CCK)

J!ADE

Maybe you have a usage for it?! Please, feel free to take and use it. I still like it very much. The word is short and memorable. It already includes the "J" for Joomla. It is a very versatile and precious mineral. I think, "green" is also a favourite color of you...

Mighty Serjey,

Great work with Simple Sale Interface, very great work in deed my friend!

I tingle all over with profound excitement, as I await for this long overdue release:)

I think Clowride might be onto something with both the "pay to play" for media files as well as a commission system to encourage site loyalty and spur more site member involvement.

Also, there are very many business models in which rather than charge a monthly subscription fee to the seller, it is actually more profitable to have users list for free but instead take a percentage of sales. Think of say a site selling 1000's of consignment goods on behalf of a single user, or even a site selling 100's of fixed price domain names per site user. A percentage of the sale price will 9/10 times trump charging btw $9-$99 subscription fees per month.

Since support for Joomla 1.5 will soon be phased out, there are those of us who have been heavily developing around Mighty Resources/ Mighty Commerce feature set and just waiting for it to be compatible with Joomla 2.5 before launching. Main reasons of course are the much improved Joomla 1.7/2.5 native ACL, better cache, built in captcha, updated code base, etc, etc, etc

I thought Black Ice/Cobalt 7/Emerald were the alternatives to Commerce/Resources for Joomla 1.7/2.5 and have been eagerly awaiting to beta test and roll all those pre-existing features out within Joomla 2.5. Are you saying we are Dead on Arrival?

Are you saying we are Dead on Arrival?
Thank you for appreciation. I am sorry I tried to search and translate but still cannot anderstan what this phrase "to be dead on arrival" men's in current context :)

kleephAvatar
Written by: kleeph VIP
On 28 February 2012

Sorry about that Serjey:) What I meant was in a similar context to how a consumer would buy a product only to find out when they unwrap it that it is doesn't work for them. To save consumers with such DOA(Dead on Arrival) items, some sellers will usually offer a patch/fix/exchange item to remedy the situtation.:)

So to re-phrase my question, did I just waste many months doing joomla template overides, CSS tweaks and graphics work in styling and preparing my current Mighty Commerce/Mighty Resources templates and layouts for Joomla 2.5?

If the answer to the above is yes, then your Black Ice/SSI/Cobalt/Emerald release would be DOA for me and everyone else like me who has had long-term plans and has been planning for many many months to upgrade their current Resources/Commerce codebase to Joomla 1.7/2.5 :(

I really like what you guys stand for in terms of joomla CCK as well as component featureset. However, Joomla will forever be evolving with security fixes and code improvements and if we your customers can't port such a powerful set of ME extensions between new Joomla versions, then what is the whole point?

@Kleeph

I understand from my similar question on another thread that the J!2.5 products aren't "upgrades" so much as comletely new products, as the structure from J!1.5 to J!2.5 is so vastly different.

As such, then yes ... all our tweaks, hacks and changes to the current ME products and the system they are built on are going to be essentially legacy products... ie., needing to be phased out as the new J!2.5 versions roll out, are repurchased and implemented.

@Sergey

This aspect remains a HUGE concern for many of us.  I personally only have 4 months of time invested in setting up my current J1.5 ME install but to be frank that amount of time, coupled with the price (even at half off we are talking over 200.00 USD) makes me VERY reticent to continue with ME.

I, like Kleeph and others, greatly appreciate the flexibility and options available with the ME products and the potential for that with the 2.5 version but the truth is ME is VERY user/admin intensive to both set  up and maintain and that, again when coupled with cost, very much causes them to suffer in comparison to a number of free/less expensive options that are much more user friendly out of the box (Zoo leaps to mind, as its users are making a huge push to add a shopping cart feature which would make it ME's most direct competitor).

Thanks Iralston for pointing that out. I feel momentum just got fully drained from my long term plans for ME:(

@ Sergey, it makes absolutely Zero(0) sense to offer your clients a lifetime license on software that you intend to obsolete. For instance, since 2004, I have received inter-version and inter-platform upgrades on all software licenses I have owned from X-Cart. Guess what?! They've totally won my loyalty with their keeping to their lifetime upgrade policy.

Everytime they've released a new module or product(such as ecwid cart), I have been first in line to buy as well as recommend and roll out to the rest of my customers. I've come to know and trust that come next version, it will be fully compatible with the rest of my code tweeks and custom templates regardless of platform changes or version upgrades:) Isn't that how you win customer loyalty, turn them into life-long fans and in turn in into fanatics that will evangelize your great software to many others?

kleeph

I tottally understand you. Let me ensure you that I absoluely do not want to force my customers to pay me over and over again. I would love to give our new extesion for free, but I afraid if I do that, that will be all you get. And I will not be able then to support and update it.

If it would be the same line that is ok. But since we hade to write extension from the begining, we cannot give it for free. We will do everything possible to make it laess painfull and give 50% discount to all our previous customers.

I am very sorry for this disapointment which I had no sense to mean.

@ Sergey, believe me, it really is painful to learn that both my "Lifetime" Suite 7 Advanced Resources as well as my "Lifetime" Ultimate Commerce license purchased less than six months ago is useless to me as I go forward.

We your customers obviously want you guys at ME to eat and feed your families and that is why we even skip free CCK options such as (J)SeBlod to pay for ME components. We truly support your work and want you to continue developing great Joomla Software. However, I can understand you wanting more money for my 3 year old Advanced Resources license. But for a brand spanking new one purchased less than six months ago?!

It really does leave a bitter taste in my mouth, especially so, when I consider that the guys at JomSocial just migrated my 11 month old license from J1.5 version of Jomsocial to J2.5 version of their software, without asking for a single penny!

Are we your loyal customers to assume that they did not have to deal with the same pains you're dealing with in terms of platform changes and code re-writes from J!1.5 to J!2.5?

iralstonAvatar

@Sergey

All of us here understand the need to keep the funding for our work rolling in and sympathize with what an upgrade of this type means when versions vary so widely.  But all of us are dealing with it too.  I am looking at least 3 sites including a huge network that I will have to rework largely because they were built at this awkward mid version juncture and I will be doing so at a loss.  Its just the way business is in our industry and every developer here understands.

If though, the J2.5 versions of the ME line live up to expectation they will take the JED by storm, opening up a much wider revenue source as new users pour in.  And that would be greatly assisted by an existing customer base writing reviews that glow because we feel that ME is as loyal to us as we are to you.

And the bottom line is that while I knew J2.5 was coming down the pike when I purchased ME 5 months ago I trusted that lifetime license or would never have put my money down.

Kleeph, makes a great point.  You should really consider those of us who bought your large packages in the last 6 months and/or those of us who have been dedicated users helping with bugs, 3DP, suggestions, translations et al (Clowride and Wolverine for example).

I read your messages and my heart is bleeding.

I am too very disappointed that I have to do this way. And believe me, we try to make as painless as possible for our customers. I know that on your side it may looks not painless at all, but that could be much worse.

We will think for special coupons for those who were and are very active of course. And for all who will be active going through beta stage. We will also provide discounts for those who purchased ME may be 3 month before now (as Cobalt has been released).

I want to ensure you that we will make everything possible to satisfy our customers and to lose their loyalty as this is very important for us. More important than money.

But, please understand, all though we will try to do everything, for some people it may still be not enough to fit their expectations.

Hello Sergey,

Liking very much that things still make sense with cobalt/emerald in J!2.5 as they did in ME resources/ME membership in J!1.5

I watched the Video Demo but can't find the settings/connection to SSI. Are we missing those features with this release?
