I don't see an "integration/matching" with Zephyr on your website. Maybe you provided a wrong link to an old testing environment.

The philosophy of Zephyr is transparency.
"Transparency lays at the heart of the Zephyr template, with the entire theme being developed around it. Every structural image is transparent to allow background colors to bleed through it seamlessly." (quote from RT site)

On your demo side, the user menu and the filter box don't blent with RT Zephyr's default style. Under zephyr, there are no 'white boxes' (or better smokewhite), all elements should follow the template's philosophy and should not destroy the esthetical flow.
See: http://wss.yoddle.net/demo/index.php?option=com_resource&view=list&category_id=8&Itemid=16
Will the ME Resources parts adjust, when the user changes the template style?

For a correct and succesful integration with a CCK, please check
http://demo.rockettheme.com/aug10/3rd-party/k2

Btw, the icons' tooltips are hidden under the popup article info.
see attached screen shot.
The popup window under the menu will not load any content.

@Sachgesicht

Yes you are so correct in pointing these things out,  THE LIST and ARTICLE template is what this package contains at the moment,  not the User menu template,  category template, filter template,  or comments template,  So,  either you want to get started with what is done or not.  the rest will come it takes time to do.  Of which I do not have a lot of.

The way the templates are done you can switch between any style of Zephyr.  black, white, purple, green or any combination.  They will conform perfectly.

Yes,  I know about the tooltips and have not come up with a solution for that.  I am still reviewing some feed back from other users to determine how and what should be placed in the pop up,  also, Something else that you failed to point out is,  I have not come up with a way to pull in the Zephyr images for mail,pdf, and print.  But I will solve the problem.  I always do.  That is what I do.

Thankyou for your review.  BTW,  you can not compare K2 to MIghty Resource structures.  K2 has a set of built in classes with basic output,  All Rt has to do is right about 20 to 30 lines of css to override it.  Hence, the 3rd party integration.   Again,  thank you for your detailed review.

@webmaker

Acctually, i dont see a sense in creating a specal list/article template for the RT zephyr template.

In my understanding the reason to create a list/article template for ME arrises more on the need of special features or arrangement of fields, not of "fitting" to an existing Joomla/RT template.

With Zephyr, RT supports 3rd party styling. Wouldn't it be better to just establish the ME styling in the Zephyr template?
With this approach all existing ME templates could be used WITHOUT any modification.
This is what they did with K2, Joomsocial, Tieda, Virtuemart...
Therefor the better approach (in my opinion) would be to add support for ME in the RT template and not the other way around.

@sackgesicht

I do not ever see that happening..  To many variable to consider with resources, etc. Besides,  it would loose much of its power and creativeness if it did adopt a set of standard classes.  Basic example would be a type with 2 text fields,  on is a quote and one is a intro.  Now if the text field had the same html and css markup.  You could not style them differently.

Yes,  there is a gap between people who can style and create templates and those who just want a cookie cutter application with basic styles.  That is kinda where I am stepping in.  To make some peoples lives easier.  The other apps you mentioned and I have worked with them all.  Are very easy to stylize but very hard to rearrange.  There are many people out there who specialize in creating new layouts along with styles for these apps.  Rt Templates are great,  but there is just no way that they will ever support ME with styles.   They can't.

What i try to point out here is, that instead of creating 1 set of templates for a RT template 9which is very limiting by the way), why not do it the other way around and adopt the RT template to ALL the ME templates.
Besides, this approach would make all of them "compatible" with the RT Template and not only 1 set. With this approach ALL ME/RT Zephyr users would highly benefit.

The Joomla template (or in this case the RT Zephyr) is the dominating styling element of a Joomla web site project. In this case, the logical consequence should be to "dominate" the 3rd party as well to achieve a consistent look. If we only make an adjustment to 1 "list/article/etc" set of templates, then we would loose all the benefits of other "list/article/etc" templates or even the basic ME Resource styling as well.

Anyway, thats just my personal opinion ... ;-)

@astoryan

but exactly this is the point here.
You can use ALL sort of templates with Zephyr, when you make the adjustments through the 3rd party support in Zephyr. This is a much more flexible way, then starting to create 1 set of templates fitting to the design. In using 1 template set you will loose so much flexibility (of all the options of the other templates).

I will quote RT here:

Third Party Extensions Compatibility Styling

Compatibility styling constitutes basic CSS alterations to better integrate the extensions with the template, rather than full theme integration.
see: http://demo.rockettheme.com/aug10/3rd-party

But maybe i am the only one thinking this way ... ;-)

@astoryan

"but i don't know css i 'm good in business"  --- hahaha , then we have something in common.. ;-)

I am also not good in CSS, i was just thinking about how to approach the "problem" (even from a business point of view) in the most economic way.

anyway, it is just some sort of "brain storming" .... ;-)

Ok guys,  here is the thing,  I could have created something like what sackgesicht mentioned.  (a set of css styles that could be added to the template css itself)  this would work but only half way.....

What I mean by half way is,  the styles would be there but the html markup would not.... for example,

Without my Customizing

  • the readmore buttons do not render properly
  • article spacing is all wrong
  • google fonts do not work
  • the edit buttons totally mess up the title
  • email, pdf print buttons do not show up in pop up.
  • Author information looks like crap,
  • article information looks like crap.

So,  as you can see,  All of the above is not fixed by css....actually none of it.  It is all fixed by creating a new html and php markup.  As a matter of fact,  I do not change one line of css,  then I would be altering the integrity of Zephyr....  I hope you understand better now....

What I like about this pack is that it gives me the ability to use an RT template without having to worry about breaking something every time I make a change. You can see the list template here, and then follow the link to see the article view. (Not currently much of a display of the list view because there is only one item in the list. I'll post another link when I'm using it in a list view with numerous items.)

This is perfect for somone who wants a clean and integrated look with Resources articles but doesn't have the ability to dig into the CSS (and a whole lot more) and make the changes on their own.

On my point of view the rocketthemes template packs for Resources is more than great. It may be bot so exited for someone who may do basic adjustment to current templates. But for majority of users, who wants to get solution out of the box it live saving experience. If template pack will include all templates including list, comments, filters, ... that will change everything. And that is what webmaker VIP is going to achieve at the end.

I want to say that i personally more than happy about WSS project.
