Wow, amazing component guys! You just made my day! This is going to make life so much easier for people who use your components extensively. Can't tell you how much I like this!

Few bug reports for you:

1. All the time I get the error message:

Cannot get self version

I don't know what this means?

2. When I tried to update I sometimes get the following message:

  • Error! Cannot find a Joomla! XML installation file in the package.
  • Cannot unpack package

3. Sometimes, the error mentioned at (2) also contains the following error. This seems to be always present for Resources. See also this help topic, which was never solved.

  • JFolder::files: Path does not point to a valid folder or the folder has been deleted.
  • JFolder::folder: Path does not point to a valid folder or the folder has been deleted.
  • JFolder::files: Path does not point to a valid folder or the folder has been deleted.

It does not seem to depend on my server configuration, as I tested it in fresh Joomla installations on different servers. You can find login information in the other support topic to test it.

Alright, thanks for the amazing work!

@danik
Update your Joomla

@neokedsord
1. Fixed in next version
2. Be sure /administrator/cache is 777
3. What do you mean "Sometimes". Do you mean that the same elemnt on install may display those errors on one try and successfully install on next try?

Very nice guys. But I will try it after stable enough perhaps Beta version. BTW, I'm still waiting the release of Resources 1.5.0. I put many modules in my homepage and it gets more slower and slower.

@sergey

1. Thanks

2. Tried CHMOD 755, didn't work, 777 sounds a bit weird as wolverine mentions?

3. Sorry for the confusion. When I try to upgrade Resources, I always get the following message. I've tried it on multiple servers, with fresh joomla installations, through FTP, manual upload and Assistant Component, tried all possible settings, but always this message since a couple of months now:

  • Error! Cannot find a Joomla! XML installation file in the package.
  • Cannot unpack package
  • JFolder::files: Path does not point to a valid folder or the folder has been deleted.
  • JFolder::folder: Path does not point to a valid folder or the folder has been deleted.
  • JFolder::files: Path does not point to a valid folder or the folder has been deleted.

4. Today, I can upgrade plugins, but not components. When I try to upgrade component, it says

  • MightyExtensions WebService Response Error: Get file method
  • Cannot find file on HDD

One addition to 3: when I try to manually unpack the Resources installation zip file, I also get an error message in windows vista. It's unable to unpack a file named "default". This might have to do with this?

neoketsord  you shuld never set permission 777 to enny folder to your server this are big sequrity hole
And this means that installations xml files are missing or are corupt so joomla cant install this
I have get this to and something are comfused about this  and devloper here must change the files to the zip files.

  • Error! Cannot find a Joomla! XML installation file in the package.
  • Cannot unpack package

    Come on, folks. 777 is not an security issue if you protect your directories with htaccess. It is not an issue at all. I know that with FTP 775 is enough. But it is impossible to unzip archive through FTP. First it should be unziped to somewhere where it is possible to copy files to. Then move files to other folders with FTP.

    Alright Sergey, so far following everything you guys recommend has worked for me so I just tried it with CMMOD 777. Didn't work either, seems like all of this is related to that "default" file which causes an error when unpacking the zip file. But i'm no expert, just guessing:)

    • Cannot find file on HDD

    Still, this component is great:)

    Btw, make it possible to update Assistant also trought Assistant. Maybe also you could added a language section to each component, to get the lastest language.

    ABSOLUTELY GREAT!!!
    If you could make it manage patches, instead of downloading the whole file each time, users will get smaller files. The benefits are many. Wink

    BTW I'm getting an error message: "ERROR LOADING FEED DATA".

    THANKS for this amazing component.

    In all other contexts, it works. VERY NICE.

    Very nice program. You just cut out over a day of my time trying to figure out which programs I had that were current.

    My only issue now is to be sure I test the updates on my dev site before making them live to the public. You made it so easy that I just want to update all the time. I just need to slow down and do the checking first.

    Thanks again. This is an amazing program. I love the downgrade feature. If it doesn't work just put it back to the last version. Very cool.

    Thanks - Aaron

    Just tried it again. Updating works now fine for all components, plugins, modules, etc.!Man I love this component!

    However I still have a problem with installing/upgrading Resources core component, there the error below appears. Tried it at multiple servers with all possible configurations. Upgrade doesn't work and freshly installing it in a new Joomla installation doesn't work either. As I said above, I think this has to do with an error in a file in the installation package, which makes it unpossible to unzip. Cause unzipping in windows vista also gives an error.

    • JFolder::files: Path does not point to a valid folder or the folder has been deleted.
    • JFolder::folder: Path does not point to a valid folder or the folder has been deleted.
    • JFolder::files: Path does not point to a valid folder or the folder has been deleted.
    • Error! Cannot find a Joomla! XML installation file in the package.
    • Cannot unpack package

    "JFolder::files: Path does not point to a valid folder..."?
    You may check your TEMP folder. Global Configuration->serveur settings->Path to temp is probably wrong.

    Thanks for your sugestion. TEMP folder is set correctly, CHMOD as well. I can even see the zip file is actually placed in the tmp folder, so I guess the problem is not there. Also Assistant says cache folder is OK.

    I really think it's the ZIP file for resources component that is not correct. Do you guys also get an error when unpacking the zip file in Vista?

    @sergey any suggestions for how I could solve this long lasting issue? Thanks!

    @neoketsord

     You are right. I try unzip it on Vista and it found 2 files that was impossible to unzip. Perhaps that could be a reason. I am checking right now what i can do.

    Anyway next version will be 1.5 and I hope I'll solve this issue for that installation package. Interesting. Do you have windows based hosting servers or Unix?
