Let's discuss about making forum with Mighty Resources.

I want to compare it with Kunena.

Main Advantages of Resources:

  • You can make custom fields for different forum sections. This is very powerful feature.
  • You can hide replies from users.
  • It works full compatiblely with other Mighty extensions.
  • Can be make different templates for different forums.
  • Tags.
  • It's much powerful with other Mighty extensions (Karma system, messaging, newsletter, etc)
  • There are 2 forum templates (but not as well as populer forum systems).
  • Moderators assignment.

Disadvantages:

  • No Split, merge, lock, hide (for snippet of body messages, hiding URLs from guests) and quote functions.
  • If multiple category select is active, users can be nonsense categories. And if it is deactive, it doesn't show all items in main section.
  • No almost any full integration with other components; like Community Builder, JomSocial, AlphaUserPoints, Uddeim, etc.

Main Advantages of Kunena:

  • Split, merge, lock and quote functions
  • It's optimized for large communities. (will be especially with v1.6)
  • It works full compatiblely with CB, JomSocial, Uddeim, etc.
  • There are more 3rd party extensions for it.

Disadvantages:

  • No CCK feature.
  • No hiding messages from users.
  • No full integration with Mighty extensions.

 

I think dropping Kunena and making a forum with Resources. What do you think about it?

Forums with Mighty Resources lacks also:

  • unread topîcs (should work like Visited Article feature, with PT plugin etc)
  • ban policy (what exists with minimum karma is good, but lacks a feature like Warning Points, given by some class of people, moderators)
  • moderation for some classe of people (not being able to publish directly)

Few words

Defends

  • New version have pagination
  • It is possible to mark unread topics by bold
  • SQL is optimized as much as we have ability to optimize it.
  • All items in section root is planeed feature.
  • Although it is not intergated with JomSocial, CB, .. it is fully compatible with PeopleTouch with is much, much. much more advanced then liste above. And that was the purpose. I mean why we create integration with JomSocial if we have PeopleTouch and yet more advanced and flexible.

Addition

  • Stick messages possible.
  • Do not forget that Resources and PeopleTouch togather not only gives full forum features in terms of profiles but allow users create groups and have forum section in groups. It means every group may have own forum with is uniq feature
  • Permision to post or read depends on Karma. Imagine this scheme on Tutorial Post forum.
    • 10 pints for submitting a post
    • -2 points for reading a post
    • 1 point minimum to read the post

This will create Forum like Dev2Dev to sare expiriance. post topic with tricks and read 5.

Disadvantages Agree

  • Moderation is not as good as could be for native forum
  • Split, merge, lock, quote.
  • Ban Policy - no block to post, wrnings, ...

yes i agree my customers (compagnies) after to have and try Jomsocial, prefer peopletouch, they love peopletouch and thank to this forum they are going to be happy thank sergey

If I want to choos the forum template , do I need to upgrade to advanced version?

Because I didn't see the template such as in the video.

yes forum templates is part of advanced template package.

Changes since last tolpic

1. No it have forum templates in advances package which looks much like all classic forums

2. In upcomming 1.5 will be possible to set moderators
