recently I found a really cool feature in Joomla 1.6: Language Overrides! What a relief, and a real tiny gem.

Unfortunately, there are no core language overrides. Is it possible to add something similar for ME extensions only??

Another solution could be a new feature in ME Assistant. Show installed language files and give a checkbox for exclusion (do not install, keep old files)? Or it might be easier to copy/rename the old files with Date and install the new files anyway?!

Please, could you utilize the provided core technique for Resources 1.6 and upcoming ME releases?

The current way is too manually and dangerous for updates. e.g. I disabled Assistant in components, so nobody is able to delete the files accidently. Assistant is a timesaver, no doubt about it, but it does not really help in real world installations, where you are forced to change language files and modules for your needs.
