recently came across some interesting but advanced custom field solutions... e.g. they are found in CommunityBuilder, FlexiContent and Seblod as far as I know.

They allow to enter custom SQL queries! A great feature if you need to pull data from other tables in the internal DB. (CB also supports external DB tables)

More or less Resources does something similar in the Records field (but with pre-defined queries via a select box). It would be nice to have a custom query field as a seperate field plugin OR at least as an addition in the Records field. Not sure if this would be to complex and would work with the template overrides...

A simple field value output would be fine for a "first release" ;-) What do you think?
